Behavioral Health Equity Assessment measures local access to care

A Behavioral Health Equity Assessment commissioned by the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board shows progress being made in improving accessibility to care, while challenges still remain.

The report from the Health Policy Institute of Ohio sought to help the Board and our partners more fully understand the needs of area residents and inform how services are provided. Specifically, the assessment aimed to describe gaps in mental health and addiction treatment, identify the root causes of those gaps, explore how the shifting demographics of Delaware and Morrow Counties could affect health disparities, and identify potential training opportunities for Board staff, community behavioral health providers and others.

Survey respondents noted the talented and compassionate providers in our region and the wide array of programs and services they offer. Respondents also identified barriers to receiving care, including affordability of services, stigmas against individuals who seek treatment, and workforce challenges facing providers.

This assessment is the culmination of multiple coordinated DMMHRSB efforts to evaluate community needs, ensure accessibility of behavioral healthcare for all residents, and improve healthcare outcomes.
