Meadow Center ribbon cutting marks end of renovations, opening of behavioral healthcare hub
With construction now complete, Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board members, staff, partners and friends gathered December 12 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate years of work that helped create a one-of-a-kind facility in Morrow County.
Delaware and Morrow Counties are in the midst of an addiction and mental health crisis. Need is at an all-time high, but there’s a shortage of crisis services and other behavioral healthcare for youth and families. These services are critical for communities to thrive and reach their true potential.
That’s why we’re taking steps to help.
The Meadow Center is a 34-year-old Mount Gilead facility owned by the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. The building has long been home to three mental health and substance use service providers, the only facility of its kind in Morrow County. But it was in desperate need of repairs and additions. Some of the issues included:
• Lack of space for child and family treatment programs. Some provider staff have been housed in schools and a small outpatient office.
• Insufficient and poorly configured space for adult services, crisis intervention and crisis assessment services.
• Lack of space to configure a mobile crisis hub.
• Lack of separate law enforcement and crisis entrance.
• Insufficient and inefficient office space to support the delivery of high- quality treatment services.
• Lack of appropriate meeting space.
• An aging roofing and outdated electrical, plumbing and heating systems
• Windows and doors needed to be replaced.
• Insufficient security due to building configuration.
• Dated and non-compliant restroom facilities.
• Underutilized square footage due to poorly configured suites and poorly planned central lobby and shared space.
What We’ve Done
The Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board developed a strategic plan to bring the Meadow Center in line with current behavioral health care standards. Our Board of Directors selected Barton Malow as the construction firm to lead a massive renovation and expansion of the Meadow Center. With the overhaul now complete, the facility is an accessible, multi-use, and cost-effective site that creates a sustainable behavioral health hub to serve all age groups in need of services. Future expansion for additional services will also be possible.
This project updated the existing 10,980 square feet facility to meet code regulations and maximize square footage and utilization of features for residents, staff and visitors. With the addition of 7,210 square feet of new space, the Meadow Center is now able to increase outpatient capacity to add a fourth provider who primarily serves children and families, while creating secure crisis assessment space for an existing provider tenant. The expanded facility also increases accessibility by cutting wait times for services.
These are necessary changes to a facility that provides crucial behavioral health services to a quickly growing part of Central Ohio and the nation.
Thank you so much for your support throughout this project and helping us create a Meadow Center that will meet the behavioral healthcare needs of the community.
